Dress Shopping Extravaganza

Saturday was the BIG day. It was the day that Monique & I set out to find her a wedding dress. We were gone for 12 hours on Saturday and that includes roughly two hours of drive time, two hours for supper at The Melting Pot (I'll write more about that later), and eight hours of shopping. Oh, wait...there was an hour of down time that included lunch. :)

It was a fantastic day and we had a lot of fun!! We did find her a dress and I'll give you a peek of it in the grand finale of this post. :)

We started the day at a large bridal store and it was a two-hour event, but it ended up being good in the long run. Let me tell you, though, if you ever go shopping for a bridal gown, there will be some down right scary moments...or should I say dresses!! :) Monique tried on at least a dozen dresses at the first place and sometimes I wouldn't even let her out of the dressing room because the dress was SO not Mo! Other times, though, we had a lot of fun trying to figure things out by piecing and pulling and tightening dresses here and there to determine if it was something that would work.

After that, we headed to a couple of smaller shops to look at things, but ended up back at the first place with some final decisions. Here are some snapshots of the day...


I really tried to convince Monique that these were the perfect shoes for her perfect day, but she just wouldn't believe me!! Needless to say, we left them at the store. :( I think that they're a lot of fun, don't you?!? :)


At one of our next stores, Monique tried to convince me that this was the perfect hairpiece for her perfect day! I said, "Yeah. Not so much." :)

This next photo doesn't even begin to give you a glimpse of all of the dresses that Monique tried on. She told me later on that at the first store, she started to have so many dresses in her dressing room that she thought, "Something has got to change!" Needless to say, we started taking care of things. :)

So...what do you think of this as a bridesmaid dress? What? No?!? Well, then, how about....

...THIS!!!! Talk about fancy!!!

Okay...I'm being sarcastic. Neither of them were chosen as the bridesmaid dress. :)

Monique, the wedding dress model. :) This was actually a very nice dress that may have ended up in Monique's closet, but we couldn't get the entire dress to come together like it should. Just ask Mo...I think I gave her whiplash from all of the twisting and turning I forced her to do. :)

Now this dress was a lot of fun, but Monique was not buying the renaissance style sleeves. I don't think it would have worked anyway because the top was way too bulky and it didn't fit very nicely.

I was going to buy this 12-foot veil for myself in the event that I might get married someday, but I took one look at the $190.00 price tag and screamed. Then I hung it back on the rack.

Needless to say, by the end of the day, we were exhausted. Don't believe me? Does this following picture LOOK like a picture of someone who's full of energy? Yeah...I don't think so...

Shortly after this picture, I said to Monique, "Can we please go home now!?!?" Do you know what she said? She said, "No! We have to finalize a few more things. I said, "WHAT?!?!?

After she got done laughing at my obnoxious expressions, we headed back to the first store to finalize things and...here, my friends, is a sneek peek at Monique's wedding dress!!!!!

Oh, come on. You don't really think I'd show you the ACTUAL dress, do you!?!? I think if I did, Monique would probably have some not-so-nice people come and teach me a lesson or two. :) You'll just have to wait and see what it looks like!!! :) For now, you get to look at the pretty bag that it's hiding in. :)

It was a good end to a great day!! Monique, of course, will make a beautiful bride and I am excited for the day that she will wear this dress! :)

For my dad

My dad doesn't think that I'm posting often enough. He e-mails me every time he thinks it's time for an update and let me be the first to say that not many days pass before an e-mail arrives. :) I'm glad, though. At least I know that he's looking and that he's interested in what's going on with me. :)

I really don't have much to blog about lately. I should mimic MelB Marvis and do some bullet posts. She likes bullet posts. I think it's because she's an engineer and she likes the order of a bullet post. :)

I'm plugging along in school and keeping quite busy with life. This weekend, I get to help a good friend go shopping for her wedding dress, so that should be a FUN day! At the end of the day, we're treating ourselves to a special dinner at The Melting Pot, too. I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm off to a work meeting now (oh, joy.) and then to my class at four. I have my first exam in this class today and I'm kind of nervous about it. I think that the first exams are always nerve-wracking because you really don't know what to expect from the instructor. Wish me luck! :)

As I was getting ready for bed the other night, I was reflecting on my day and I was just feeling happy about everything that I had accomplished that day. While I was thinking about it, though, my thoughts immediately went to something I saw LONG ago and it perfectly describes how I was feeling the other night as I was reflecting on my day. Remember this, Dad?!? I think you and I were the only ones to enjoy the hilariousness of it! :o) Enjoy!



For those of you who don't know, this was a TV show about two cousins who were roommates and the one cousin, obviously, was from another country and this was his celebration dance. The TV show was "Perfect Strangers."

Obviously no one cares. :)

Well, it's obvious to me that no one really cared about my grumpy day the other day. And that just makes me, well...grumpy!! *haha* Not really!!! :)

Things are going good. My cold has left, my homework is coming along, work is work and I have lots of plans for the weekend. The plans include a basketball game, dinner at a friend's house, church, group project work for a class, and dinner with some friends at their "new" remodeled home. (I'm excited to see it!) In between all of that, I'll be finishing more homework! Yay! :)

Welcome, February

As I write this, the time has rolled over and it's now February 4. A month ago today, I was returning from my trip up North for Christmas. I can't believe it's been a month. In some senses, it seems like it HAS been a long time since I was there, just because of the variety of events that have gone on since I returned. In other senses, though, it seems like I just left and I still am missing my family just as much.

I am feeling MUCH better since my post on Sunday. Or Saturday. Whatever day it was. I started feeling "normal" again yesterday and today was better, too. I suppose if I continue staying up this late, though, that "normal" feeling won't last for long. I'd better go to bed soon!

I am feeling much better about school and work, too. Although today was a seriously grumpy day for me. I just felt grumpy ALL day today. I'd have glimpses of NOT grumpy, so that was good. But...the majority of it = grumpy. I think I was just feeling tired.

I told mom on the phone tonight, "This three classes + full-time job thing is harder than I thought it would be!" What's "hard" about it is that it consumes my time outside of work. I knew my social life would take a serious back-seat in life, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. Mom said, "Well, maybe you should cut back on a class next semester." Um...I didn't say that it was THAT hard, did I? ;o) My new chant has been, "May 2011, May 2011, May 2011, etc." That should get me through! :)

Here's to a HAPPY February 4 day!! No more grumpiness!! :o)
