Good Things

Here is a list of good things that came my way this past week:
  • I just figured out that at the end of this spring semester, I'll have enough college credits completed to be considered "senior status". Even though I won't graduate for a while longer, having senior status offers early registration perks. Wahoo! :)
  • About graduating...I still plan to continue working full time while I go to school part time, so even though I have senior status, my estimated graduation date (if I've figured things out correctly!) is December 2012!!! Wahoo!! Now, I could finish a lot earlier than that date, but I'm not too thrilled with the idea of living the life of poverty again while going to school full time. I like the 8-5 schedule and I like having my weekends free and I like being financially comfortable. So...2012 it is. Be on the lookout for your party invitation. :)
  • I received a call this week that an apartment may be ready for me in the place that I'm moving to!!! They told me that it would be available on May 20. I'm going to go and look at it next week before making a decision, but I'm really excited about moving and I can hardly wait!! :)
  • On the same note, I think that I've helped my landlords out by finding someone to rent my current place. Details are still being worked out for that, but I think that it will all work out nicely. :)
  • This week, I planned out the classes that I'm going to take this summer and this fall and they were signed off on and approved. Yay! What's even more "yay!" is that after this fall, I will be done with my generals and I will be focusing only on the last phase of my program (the remaining 3000-4000 level classes). Wahoo!
  • A plan is also in the works for a fall trip to Yellowstone with my parents. I've never been there and I'm super excited about going!!!
  • After working seven years for the company I'm employed by, someone just clued me in yesterday to the fact that I can get an 18% discount on my cell phone bill just because of the people I work for!! I signed up for that yesterday afternoon. :)

I had just been thinking last night about how good this week has been and I decided to share it with you!! What good things have YOU experienced this week? Tell us! :o)

You've never been to Yellowstone? :0 (I've been there 3 times, you'll love it)

This wk has been busy, just like the past month. But I've learned just how much I love my lil family!

If you want to stay in Yellowstone Park, at Old Faithful Inn, for example, you have to make reservations early. You can always cancel if your plans change. You can search accommodations online. We love to stay at Old Faithful Inn and watch Old Faithful go off. Yellowstone Park is one of our favorite places. It was nice to read about your good week!

Thanks for your update, Jen. We don't see you often enough to keep up with your life, so I am always glad when you keep us informed as to how things are going with you. I'm glad you had a good week. Take care, Linda

Hey Jen, I think we talked about this before but be sure to go before the 3rd week of September. Things start closing (stores, services, etc.) after labor day but most are closed by later in the month.

I took a fun class at the Y, the workers stayed with us, we heard a very encouraging message at Gospel meeting, Jan Michael worked from home on Thursday which I always love, and today was super sunny (enough to wear flip-flops!) - good things for sure!

Hey, do you get to advise yourself? Maybe that's not a good thing....kind of like a doctor trying to treat themselves. A couple good things this week were a sunny Saturday and finishing a digital scrapbooking project.

@Mel... I have an advisor specific to my program, but I pretty much just advise myself. :) I try to be considerate and at least touch base with her each semester and once a year I try to stop in and actually see her, but other than that, I pretty much plan everything out on my own and just confirm it with her via e-mail.

I'm a FIRM believer that students should know how to figure out their program for themselves and so I've learned to do that. However, it's not often that students do this for themselves. By the end of the first year of college, a student should have the capability to know what courses they need, how to search for them and what comes next in their program, but so often that doesn't happen. Then, when something goes wrong, it seems that they blame it on their advisor, which is too bad. The advisor is NOT the "all-knowing" and so I believe that it's good to know what's going on with your program. I try to encourage this with the students that I work with and I also do it this way for my own schooling. It's not that I'm trying to "trump" my advisor, it's just that I'm trying to be knowledgable enough to work WITH her in regards to my degree...in case you wanted to know all of that. :)
