Why is it that when I finally decide that I'm ready to move back to my home state and be closer to family again, the dumb economy takes a nose dive?!?! Errg. I realize that there ARE people who are moving around and switching jobs and that it's not hopeless, but seriously...why couldn't the economy have just held on for a year or two more so that I could relocate with ease? Double errg.
So, fellow blog readers, I'm asking for your thoughts on this. My question for you involves a little detail, so it's rather lengthy, but I want your opinions and I hope you'll give them to me. Here we go...
I love my current job. There are some things, as with any job, that make me just shake my head, but for the most part, I really do enjoy the work that I do. However, my family is 19 hours away from me!!! NINETEEN!!!! And that's starting to become a little too far away. I have finally made it to a point where I feel ready to close the chapter on my adventure to the wild west and relocate so that I'm living closer to my family again, but as I have already mentioned, the economy has tanked (as we're all aware of) and now I'm hesitant to relocate. What would you recommend? Would you recommend that I stay where I am for another year, pay off more debt, save a little more money and then relocate? (Another year would also give us a better idea of how the economy is going to be.) OR...do you think that I should just take a chance and relocate? Do you think that if I find a job that I might like (not necessarily love...how can anyone know that about a job before starting it??? :) and it pays enough that I can live on, should I go for it? Should I take that kind of chance with the economy being as bad as it is? After all, a move puts me at the bottom of the totem pole again, so if layoffs needed to happen, I may be one of the first ones to go! But...if I miss my family enough, shouldn't I just go for it and hope for the best?? What do YOU think? I'm really curious to hear!! :)
Thanks for your thoughts! And feel free to remain anonymous, if you'd like! I don't care! :)

Isn't it always that way?! We've found things have a way of opening up if they are supposed to and clamming up tight if they aren't. Just hang on and see how it feels.. you know poke your nose around a little.
Good luck and keep us updated!
I'll send you an email :)
Hmmm. . .I choose "none of the above." The answer you are looking for is: Move to Oklahoma!!! :)
I say go for it and move. I'm sure that you'll be able to find a job shortly. I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have you closer!!!!
I say go for it. The economy may get worse in a year and then you'd be kicking yourself. If you move to a fairly populated area, there's bound to be a job or two or even three for you (not saying you should take three jobs at once, but thinking ahead to if the first two don't work out or you're let go because of slow times...) My FIL always said that if he couldn't find a job where we live he wouldn't find one anywhere. (We live in a very populated area.) My husband says the same thing, meaning that if he ever loses his job, we likely wouldn't have to move to find work.
How's that for a long answer? I hope it makes sense.
Who cares about the economy! Do what you need to do and you'll figure it out as you go.
well julie, look at the map my deer and you will see your idea takes jen further away from family! and i've been to oklahoma- yousers!! me thinks jen should stay put and try again in a year. in todays world preperation is most important. pay off your debts, stash some cash and good things will happen. the 'ol woodtick
I agree 100% with your email! Follow your heart/gut.. :) Wish you the best! Do I/or other Heather have your cell #? Email it to me!
Oh, Jen, I sympathize with you & your dilemma. Do you have peace about either staying or going? My mother-in-law would say to pray about it, and that's the best advice anyone could give, I think :)
I'm voting for wait a year. You should keep working on getting out of debt and wait for the economy to improve. Every day people more people are losing jobs. Have you seen the latest unemployment reports? I say stick it out a while longer. You can do it.
Guess I'm all alone on that one--sounds like you're leaning towards moving--good luck.
@ Jenn - Your second comment made me laugh. :) To answer you, though, yes, I have been watching the unemployment rates and my response is this: "Yike-a-roonies." To respond to your second comment, I HAVE already made a decision, but haven't had time to post it. I've decided I'm staying for another year. :) It's just too risky right now.
Jen, I'm glad you decided to stay for the time being. I could have cheered you on either way you would have chosen. Most often if you wait long enough the best plan comes through. It looks like Woodtick was stearing you away from OK. :-)Linda
I guess it's been decided already, but Man Oh Man, I would have said, too- Wait for now. It's tough, for sure- but having a good job is worth an awful lot right now... and they don't predict that it will get a lot better any time soon. I think you're a smart gal! You can do it!
But we want you to stay; you said we couldn't move away from you! ;)We'll be home Tuesday evening. And then everything will be okay again ;)
So how about lunch on Wednesday?
hmmm....
My advice-
PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!
God will provide and see you through. It is when we take matters into our own hands that our lives start getting into a mess!
"Whew" and "Sigh". I think you know what that means coming from me!
